Learn to utilise form in your drawing. This 4 week course will include:
Week 1
Tonal value – We will look at how to create volume from light and dark, how light sources behave across the surface of objects and deal with reflection. We’ll be asking questions such as ‘how can tone help to create relationships between objects and also be a compositional tool?’
Week 2
Pattern – We will look at the way in which patterns and texture can help to create the feeling of form and give us recognisable dimension. We’ll ask ‘how can I make use of natural pattern or texture or even introduce them to give depth to a subject and it surroundings?’.
Week 3
Line – The qualities of a line (or ‘mark’) you make can include a lot of useful information for the viewer, such as - where the surface stops or meets another surface or whether it continues its curve away from view. We will answer questions such as ‘Where and how can I apply variation of line and what effect does it have?’
Week 4
Colour – We will look at how colour relates to tone and how together they can help to map your image and give a feel of depth as well as some of the other considerations of colour such as mood. We will treat this week as a way of building on all of the classes before and ask ourselves ‘what part does colour play in giving form to my work?’.
Course dates: May (Saturdays) 4, 11, 18, 25th
Format: 4 x Zoom classes of 120 minutes with demos and Q&As and community forum on Discord
