If you or someone dear to you loves cats – join me for a double workshop during which you’ll learn how to draw cat portraits with a soft and tender focus. We’ll be using soft pastels to lovingly explore our furry friends through shape, working with the pastels, tone, colour and composition.
This course will be accompanied by a free ‘pastel taster session’ on January 11th 1600-1700 sponsored by Royal Talens.
Workshop 1 (January 18) – We’ll be working with the main shapes in cats and learning how to work with soft pastels on your surface. We’ll begin to block in tone to give dimension and life to our drawings.
Workshop 2 (January 25) – We’ll build on the learning from workshop one and work with colour to make your drawing expressive. We will also pay attention to composition and how to make your drawing work as a piece of art.
Format: 2 x Zoom classes of 120 minutes with demos, Q&As and community forum on Discord
(all classes - Saturdays 1600-1800 GMT) - all classes recorded so you can catch up or watch again – available for 12 months after the course.
Materials required:
Soft pastels (set of at least 20 varying colours – I personally recommend ‘Rembrandts’ by Royal Talens)
1 Sketchbook A4 size – cartridge paper 150gsm – smooth surface
1 Sketchbook A3 size – cartridge paper 150gsm – smooth surface
Who is it for: Participants need to have some basic experience of drawing.
Participants must be 18 years of age or over
