Dates - February 07, 14, 21, 28 (Saturdays) 1600-1800 London time
(If you have booked - check your filtered mail for joining instructions 2 weeks prior to the course start)
Who is this course for:
Would you like to be more intuitive, to enjoy a more organic approach?
Does working across mediums excite you?
Do you want the subject to lead the way?
With a fashion and figure subject focus, I'll provide the learning to give you more confidence across a range of mediums and practical guidance on how to combine them for unique results. During the sessions we'll touch on the topics of mark-making, colour, composition and form. You'll open up your perceptions and play to discover what's possible.
SESSION 1 – February 07
Media: Stamps (coloured ink pads) + coloured pencils
Learn how to harmonise tools with completely different voices - in week 1 we’ll push the broad, diffused layering of ink pads against the more precise and character describing marks of coloured pencils. We'll create expressive, bold suggestions of movement and volume.
Materials suggestion –
1. Coloured ink pads- the ones I will be using are ‘Versacraft’ (Red, blue, yellow, orange, pink, green)
2. A range of 12 or 24 coloured pencils – I am using Derwent Inktense.
SESSION 2 – February 14
Media: Acrylic markers + neocolor 2 / coloured pencils
Week 2 will be a focus on opacity and texture with the flat even colour and tone application of acrylic markers providing a base for the textural marks of neocolor 2 to provide both looser and finer description.
Materials suggestion –
1. Any type of acrylic marker in a range of 4 or 5 colours – I use a Posca 8.0mm chisel tip
2. Either Neocolor 2 by Caran D'ache tin of 10 or 15 would be fine or oil pastels would also be fine.
Session 3 – February 21
Media: Paper collage + inks + pencils
In week 3, paper collage will give us freedom in placing bold shapes. We’ll then refine and soften those shapes to create feeling by using the fluid marks of ink and texture and add detail with pencils.
Materials suggestion -
1. A range of cut paper - different sizes, shapes and colours
2. Inks - a range of 4-5 coloured drawing inks - I will use both Daler Rowney and Windsor and Newton.
3. Coloured pencils.
Session 4 - February 28
Media: Powder or Oil pastels + ink pads / acrylic markers
For the final week, week 4, I’ll provide the reference and the demonstration bringing together the marks of pastels for detail and definition while stamps or acrylic marker will block in base layers. You will also be able to include techniques and your choices from weeks’ 1-3 teachings to express yourself in your own way.
Materials suggestion -
1. Powder or Oil pastels (a small set would be fine - I am using Royal Talens - Rembrandts soft pastels or Caran d'ache oil pastels)
2. Ink pads + acrylic markers as before.
General materials:
In addition to those specified in the session descriptions above, you should have a supply of fresh paper at size A4 and A3 or similar, along with a range of different mark making tools such as brushes for the inks or acrylics.
You can also bring along any other materials you would like to try, remember that the approach is very organic, so materials may suggest themselves!
